A California man has won the second biggest Powerball Jackpot ever in the USA, after claiming $1.765billion.
California Man Wins Powerball Jackpot
The winning ticket had been unclaimed since October, but according to Lottery officials a named winner has clinched the $1.765bn.
Representing a list of winners, Theodorus Struyck, has been named as the winner and the 65-year-old has picked up the second biggest win in Powerball history.
There has not been too much information about the 65-year-old, but the older statesman is said to be a fishing enthusiast, grandfather and ‘really pleasan’t.
Before taxes, the $1.765bn jackpot is valued at a $774.1million, and will be directed to the 65-year-old in just one payment.
The 65-year-old is said to have bought his ticket near his home of north Los Angeles from Midway Market, dating back to October last year.
Such a win makes it the second largest US lottery Powerball jackpot in history, only beaten by a $2.04bn win in 2022 by Edwin Castro, another California resident who went on to purchase a long list of real estate.
California Lottery director, Harjinder K. Shergill Chima, has applauded the decision to announce Struyck’s win – hoping to attract more players in the future.
The Lottery director said: “Announcing big wins like this gives all of our players the chance to hope and dream that they could be next.”
Another payment option, opposed to the $774.1m sum, is to have 30 annual payments and this was confirmed when Powerball revealed that the jackpot was clinched in early October.
The odds of winning the jackpot, according to Powerball, is one in 292.2 million, making it one of the toughest lotteries in America.
The next draw will hold a jackpot of $645m and will be revealed on Monday 19th March 2024 – with players hoping to land on the same fate as Struyck.
