The Vancouver City Council has announced a fresh amendment to the city’s duo of land-based gaming sites, as they are set for changes.

Vancouver Set To Add More Products To Land Based Gaming Sites

After a series of requests from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Vancouver City Council are set to make adjustments to the provincial gambling policy – which will include more slot machines and table games.

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation demanded that the two land-based casinos increase their capacity, as operations are set to increase in the coming months.

This decision was made as the increased capacity is expected to attract more customers and grow revenue for the city and communities.

Another key factor is the involvement of the Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities, who have evaluated the list of proposals in a staff report.

This report had several prepositions and included the idea of lifting the 2011 moratorium which is a rule that stops any applications to increase gaming at retail venues.

On May 9th, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation told the Canadian Gaming Business that a vote was made in the council.

This vote, which included key staff members, determined that applications to ‘change the extent of lottery schemes at current retail sites’ is now acceptable.

This means that Section 18 of the Gaming Control Act will now be looked into and the casinos have to complete full assessments of the health, safety, and economic impacts from the possible adaptations.

Vancouver and the BCLC will maintain their relationship, meaning the two organizations will collaborate when forming new ideas, as well as including key partners in decisions relating to gambling expansion at the two retail sites.

The expected adaptations will effect the current venues, however, the moratorium still stands for fresh gambling buildings that open in Vancouver.
