Tranmere Crowned Champions, Doncaster and MK Dons Promoted, Bromley Relegated – Supercomputer Predicts 2024/25 League 2 Season

Paul Kelly

Surprise package Tranmere Rovers will be crowned League 2 champions with Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons also securing automatic promotion back to League 1, according to our AI Supercomputer.

Not only that, but the four relegated teams from League 1 last season will all struggle, with Grimsby Town and Bromley officially relegated out of the Football League.

We asked our AI supercomputer to preview the upcoming 2024/25 League 2 campaign, and here it is below.

  • Tranmere clinch League 2 title, Doncaster and MK Dons automatically promoted
  • Grimsby and Bromley’s torrid seasons end in relegation from the Football League
  • Bradford, Chesterfield, Notts County and Gillingham make play-offs

Tranmere Win League 2 Title, Doncaster and MK Dons Join Them With Automatic Promotion To League 1

The upcoming 2024/25 League Two season is sure to be an entertaining one, with plenty of narratives heading into the start of the new campaign. Fleetwood Town, Carlisle United, Cheltenham Town and Port Vale were the four sides relegated from League One last year, with Chesterfield and Bromley the two promoted sides from the National League up into the EFL.

According to our AI supercomputer, there will be many twists and turns throughout the 2024/25 League 2 season, resulting in promotion for Tranmere, Doncaster and MK Dons back to League 1.

Both Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons finished in the League 2 play-off places last term, but were ultimately unsuccessful with Crawley Town eventually securing promotion at Wembley. However, this season our supercomputer is predicting both sides will go one better and secure automatic promotion this season without the need for the play-offs.

The surprise package looks like it will be Tranmere Rovers, who are being tipped to win League 2 by AI this upcoming season. Although Tranmere aren’t being talked about as real relegation candidates either, they are expected to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack with a rather uneventful season. However, our supercomputer is predicting the Super Whites will have an outstanding campaign resulting in being crowned champions come next May.

Our supercomputer hasn’t been too kind to the four relegated sides either, who will all be looking to bounce back to League 1 at the first attempt. Of the four teams relegated last term, AI is predicting Port Vale will do the best of them, finishing 13th in League 2 this upcoming campaign. Carlisle, Fleetwood and Cheltenham are predicted to finish 16th, 17th and 18th respectively, all finishing closer to the relegation zone than the play-off places.

Another bold prediction by our AI supercomputer is that newly promoted Chesterfield will continue their meteoric rise and finish in the League 2 play-off places. Bradford City, Gillingham and Notts County are set to join them and battle it out for promotion to League 2 via a stop at Wembley for the play-off final.

Bromley and Grimsby Face The Drop With Relegation From The EFL

At the opposite end of the table, our supercomputer is predicting that newly promoted Bromley will head straight back down to the National League following their dramatic promotion last season via penalties.

Bromley of course gained promotion last season to the EFL for the very first time in the club’s history, but they are being tipped by our supercomputer to struggle this term and head straight back down to non-league. AI is predicting they will accumulate just 27 points, which includes just five wins the entire season.

As for the other relegated side, our AI supercomputer is predicting that it will be Grimsby Town. Grimsby avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season when finishing 21st in League 2, but this year is set to be another poor one for the Mariners, ultimately resulting in relegation out of the Football League altogether.

As for the rest of the league, Salford, Barrow, AFC Wimbledon and Swindon will just miss out on the play-offs, with Newport County, Accrington Stanley and Harrogate Town the closest teams to the drop next campaign. For the rest of next season’s League 2 sides, it will be a rather uneventful season with mid-table mediocrity the end result.

Commentary

Lee Astley, Head of News at InstantCasinos, commented on the supercomputer predicted 2024/25 League 2 season, saying:

“Strap in for a thrilling League 2 season with Tranmere Rovers surprising everyone as the best team in the league. Both Doncaster and MK Dons made the League 2 play-offs last season and are expected to go one better this year and secure automatic promotion to League 1.

“Our supercomputer is also predicting another tough season for the four relegated teams from League 1 last term, with none of them even coming close to the play-offs. It seems the fourth promoted team next season will come from either Notts County, Chesterfield, Gillingham or Bradford.

“Unfortunately for Bromley, their time in League 2 is expected to be short lived following their promotion from the National League. It comes as no surprise to see Grimsby joining them after another torrid season.”

Methodology

Combining the likes of ChatGPT, Gemini and Bing AI, a prediction was formulated by the supercomputer to predict the final league table standings for the 2024/25 Sky Bet League 2 season.

This included providing the supercomputer with a list of all 24 teams in the league and adding how many summer signings each team have made and how many players they have lost so far.

We also asked the supercomputer to predict the full league table including points, goal difference, matches won, matches lost, matches drawn and how many overall games they played.

To make the supercomputer prediction as accurate as possible, we also provided it with extensive information about each club in League 2. This includes their recent form and how they performed last season, who their manager is, their financial position and the general feeling from fans about the upcoming season.

Based on all of these factors, the supercomputer predicted that Tranmere Rovers, Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons will gain automatic promotion to League 1, whilst Bradford City, Chesterfield, Notts County and Gillingham will make up the play-offs.

The supercomputer also predicted that Grimsby Town and Bromley will be relegated out of the Football League. We didn’t ask the supercomputer to predict who would win the play-offs between the four teams.
