Pennsylvania online casino betting is on the rise according to a recent study funded by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
In 2023, participation in online casinos rose by a sizable 16 per cent. This is a 5 per cent increase compared to the two years previous.
The study’s results were also clear – Pennsylvanians spend much more time and money gambling online than in person at brick-and-mortar casinos.
Pennsylvania Online Casino Betting
According to data from the PGCB, online casinos generated approximately $2.1Billion last year. This was up around $800Million over 2022 and 2021.
The growth in online casino betting is due to a number of factors. Operators have put much more emphasis on attracting new players to their sites offering stronger welcome bonuses.
Earlier this month, BetMGM Casino introduced a number of new games by Play’n Go across Penn state. At the start of the year, Fanatics launched an online casino as well.
The study also found that those who gamble online spend around $708 per month. Bettors who prefer brick-and-mortar casinos spent around $103 on average.
“Those that gamble both online and offline (dual-mode) gambled most often, gambling about once a week. Online-exclusive gamblers gambled 2-3 times per month and offline-exclusive gamblers only gambled about once a month,” the study confirmed.
Young Males In Pennsylvania Gamble The Most
According to the study, the average age of an online casino gambler was 33 years-old. Furthermore, three out of every four of those gamblers are male.
Around 65% of those who were part of the study are currently single and have never been married. These results will suggest that Pennsylvania-based operators will continue to target young, single males.
The idea of attracting younger, millennial bettors is certainly paying off. They appear more than happy to embrace Pennsylvania online casino betting.
In contrast, the average age of a brick-and-mortar casino bettor is 52 years-old. Almost two decades older than online casino players.
