Petersburg Developers Pitch Plans For Virginia’s Fifth And Final Casino

Five developers have pitched their casino projects to the city of Petersburg this week, with only one set to be selected to build Virginia’s fifth and final land casino.

Residents of Petersburg gathered to watch as five projects were pitched to their city this week – but who are the developers fighting to build Virginia’s final casino?

Developers In The Running

See below for a list of all the developers left remaining in the race to build a Petersburg casino.

  • Bally’s
  • Penn Entertainment
  • The Warrenton Group
  • Rush Street Gaming
  • The Cordish Companies

What Was In The Proposed Projects?

Every proposal offered something different to the last, but all of the project’s promised new jobs and a much needed economic boost to a state that has struggled with gaming revenue in the past.

The city required each bid to have a casino as the centre piece, with a destination resort, shopping centre, dining & drinks options, an events centre and finally a hotel with minimum 500 rooms. Petersburg lawmakers also stated that they would take preference to the hotels rated 4-star or above.

Petersburg senator Lashrecse Aird has spearheaded the push for Virginia’s final casino to be in Petersburg and she believes that the ‘perfect project’ would be a partnership between the operator and the people of the city.

“What we are talking about today is a significant economic development investment,” Aird said.

Aird’s legislation (Senate Bill 628) proposed that Petersburg would replace Richmond as the location for Virginia’s final land casino and after the legislation passed this week, a vote can now take place this fall within Petersburg.

“Some who know nothing about this community like to say that this is a city that has been forgotten or left behind, that simply is not true. That is represented by this room today.”

All proposals promised to hire Petersburg residents first as well as prioritising the use of local businesses to further the growth of the city.
