Las Vegas’ oldest operating casino is finally getting a remodel, with El Cortez preparing to undergo a $20million development that should put the casino back on the map.
El Cortez Remodel
With $20m, El Cortez are set to undergo a huge upgrade to their current site in the coming months, with the historic property looking to get back on the Las Vegas map.
The development will begin later this summer after planning was approved earlier this month. Another phase of the expansion is set to be announced next year once the current development is complete.
Chairman and CEO of El Cortez Casino, Kenny Epstein, released a statement following the announcement where he described his excitement over the development:
“We are thrilled to unveil our latest expansion project, which represents a significant milestone for El Cortez and the community of downtown Vegas.
“These enhancements arrive at a pivotal moment of heightened demand from both locals and visitors to Fremont Street.”
El Cortez will grow by over 10,000 square-feet once the redevelopment is compete and the casino will open a new roulette bar, as well as a ‘show bar’ which will feature live sports and old black & white movies.
The infamous Ike’s sports bar will be replaced in the redevelopment, closing down after nearly eight years of service within the casino.
Casino Redevelopment Comes After Hotel Renovation
The El Cortez Casino development comes just months after the hotel underwent a huge upgrade, with Tower Premium rooms turning into one of the nicest properties in Las Vegas.
Over $30m was invested into the new hotel project and the original 47 rooms were given a fresh look after originally opening in November 1941.
