Arizona Sportsbook Wagers: Record-Breaking Amount Taken In March 2024

Arizona’s sportsbook wagers hit a new record high in March 2024. According to the state’s department of gaming, bettors wagered $759.8Million on its online and retail sports betting market. 

Compared to year-on-year, this was an impressive 17.9% increase. Additionally, March’s total surpassed the previous record which was set in November 2023 ($713.6m).

Since online and retail sports betting went live in Arizona in September 2021, $16bn has been wagered by residents. This accumulates to approximately $5.3bn per-year in sports bets.

The top operator in Arizona in terms of both handle and revenue is FanDuel. The Flutter Entertainment-owned brand recorded a $265.1m handle in March 2024.

This is the highest-ever recorded for a sportsbook operating in the Grand Canyon State. FanDuel paid out $240.7m in online winnings to players in March. Adjusted gross revenue reached $23.7m.

FanDuel’s retail handle was $1.7m with adjusted gross revenue closing at $294,369. The operator with the second-highest handle and revenue in March was DraftKings.

The Boston-based brand recorded a $255.3m online handle with winners being paid out $236.5m. Additionally, DraftKings generated $18.1m in online adjusted gross revenue. Their retail sites collected $257,481 in revenue.

Furthermore, DraftKings accepted $2.1m in retail bets, Arizona’s highest-ever retail handle. Lastly, completing the top three for March 2024 was BetMGM.

They reported a $93.9m online handle with winnings paid out to players at $86.3m. In terms of adjusted gross revenue, $7.3m was generated in March.

BetMGM’s land-based operations posted a $650,512 handle with adjusted gross revenue at $34,517. Additionally, one of Arizona’s newest – ESPN Bet – posted fairly positive results.

Their sportsbook handle for March reported a $26.9m handle with winnings paid out to players at $25.2m. A total of $1.4m was deducted via free bets and promotional credits in March.

Overall, Arizona’s sportsbook wagers for the third month of 2024 have been hugely impressive. Subsequently, more records are more than likely to be broken later in the year.
