Pennsylvania Reports Record Month For Gaming Revenue After Surge During March

Pennsylvania has reported a significant rise in igaming revenue following march, with the state exceeding its best ever previous month by over $20 million.

Gaming revenue in Pennsylvania saw a dramatic increase of 7.6% compared to March 2023 with numbers rising to an impressive $554.6m this year compared to last.

The previous record month for igaming revenue in PA was $534.2m, with December’s record figures last year already smashed at the beginning of this year.

Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board commented that igaming “continued to be the driver for the overall growth,” after a 29% surge in revenue compared to the same month last year.

Land casino’s also played a major role in Pennsylvania’s strong March, with retail slot machine revenue increasing by 1.1% from last year. Casino table games revenue did decline but only by 0.8% to $85.2m.

Sports Betting Struggling In Pennsylvania

Although igaming revenue saw a huge increase in March compared to 2023’s monthly figures, sports betting within PA struggled throughout the month despite the March Madness NCAA tournament.

Sports betting in Pennsylvania was legalised over seven years ago in 2017, with the first in-person sports betting wager taken in November 2018 followed by the first online sports wager in May 2019.

Revenue from sports betting saw a significant decline in Pennsylvania during March with a low of $45.6m – despite the Keystone State’s handle increasing by 10.7 % to $800.7m.
