MGM has denied a viral report which claims musician Bruno Mars is in major casino debt.
After an anonymously sourced report claimed the “Grenade” singer owed the resort company millions of dollars, MGM came out to denounce the story.
Mars, 38, allegedly racked up an enormous debt in MGM’s Las Vegas casinos, but the operator has confirmed that no such debt exists.
Senior vice president of public relations at MGM, Jenn Michaels, told Forbes on Monday: “MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect.”
Michaels added that Mars “has no debt with MGM,” and that any “speculation otherwise is completely false.”
The company vice president referenced a report from cable news channel NewsNation, which claimed Bruno Mars’ gambling debt with MGM had reached as much as $50million.
Citing an anonymous “Vegas insider”, the report has sparked huge speculation and discussion on social media. The story even came up on a podcast hosted by former NFL stars Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.
First signing with MGM in 2016, Mars has performed Las Vegas residencies since, earning tens of millions of dollars. He is scheduled to perform again this summer.
Mars, who owns a cocktail lounge at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, signed a deal with MGM to perform at venues in Las Vegas and Maryland, before extending his Vegas residency for summer 2024.
The singer’s representatives declined to comment on the story. They did however direct media to MGM’s statement denying the story. NewsNation meanwhile is yet to respond to the denial of their story.
Bruno Mars Casino Debt Claims Strongly Refuted By MGM
According to the report from NewsNation, Mars allegedly makes $90m a year through his residencies but was using a significant proportion of that to fund his gambling habits.
The report claimed the Grammy winner would “only make $1.5m per night after taxes,” adding “MGM basically own him,”
But MGM has called these reports “completely false”, and spoken out strongly against the rumours.
In a statement, MGM said: “We’re proud of our relationship with Bruno Mars, one of the world’s most thrilling and dynamic performers.
“From his shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM to the new Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio, Bruno’s brand of entertainment attracts visitors from around the globe. MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect.
“Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM. Together, we are excited to continue creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.”
