Wrigley Field’s new DraftKings sportsbook is now open for users to place their bets, after finally being unveiled.
DraftKings Sportsbook At Wrigley Field Now Taking Bets
The fresh DraftKings sportsbook has ‘finally begun taking bets’ at Wrigley Field, as the new betting space held an awaited opening this week.
Kyle Long, formerly of the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, was in attendance to boost the reveal and made the first bet in the buildings history.
Long was with the Chicago Bears for seven years after being selected in 20th place during the 2013 draft, but did not play a single minute for the Chiefs due to injury.
DraftKings were handed a retail sports wagering license in Illinois last week, after the states’ Gaming Board completed the necessary steps to allow DK to function.
This has been deemed ‘a long-awaited move’ and means DK can now take bets in person at their new two-story location near the ballpark – which also boasts a bar and restaurant.
JB Pritzker, Illinois Governor, agreed to sign the Sports Wagering Act in June 2019, after bets were forbidden in schools within the city.
Now five years on, the new building is said to be 17,000-square-feet and despite its links to sports betting/gambling, offers a friendly atmosphere for social events.
It has also created a new avenue for financial gain, as the Ricketts family continue to improve the realtor market within the state.
The family are said to have spent five hundred thousand dollars on the building, aiming to make the place modern and suit the surrounding regions.
Spending this amount on a physical betting location came with its doubts, as 96% of Illinois’ $30 billion all-time sports betting handle has been made through online bets.
Opening up for bets has come at the correct time, as there is a host of major sporting events on the horizon – with college basketball and the upcoming NCAA Tournaments.
