The Queens casino complex proposed by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has been met with backlash by senator Jessica Ramos.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n She has voiced her concerns over the plans for the $8Billion mega-entertainment site. Specifically, Ramos does not believe building a casino would be beneficial for the parkland in Corona.<\/p>\n \u201cI will not introduce legislation to alienate parkland in Corona for the purposes of a casino. We want investment and opportunity, we are desperate for green space, and recreation for the whole family.<\/p>\n “We disagree on the premise that we have to accept a live casino in our backyard as the trade-off,\u201d explained Ramos. Notably, Ramos is a Democrat who is considering running for mayor in 2025.<\/p>\n Cohen’s proposed project would see the casino and entertainment complex be constructed next to Citi Field. Additionally, the property would also feature a 20-acre park, conference facility, hotel, music venue, and Queens Food Hall.<\/p>\n The Mets owner was hoping to obtain a New York City casino licence with Hard Rock International. However, his plans in Queens may be scuppered by Ramos’ unwillingness to build a casino.<\/p>\n Nonetheless, the New York State Gaming Commission is offering three downstate casino licences. The likes of MGM Resorts International, Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands and Caesars Entertainment are all in the mix.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Thor Equities revealed plans in mid-May about building a $3bn casino and entertainment complex in Coney Island.<\/p>\n The Manhatten-based investors would also cater for retail and a number of leisure activities. If granted, it will be called The Coney and likely provide a huge boost to tourism.<\/p>\n Typically, Coney Island is an iconic summer destination but Thor Equities want visitors to flock to the area all year round.<\/p>\n Sen.
