Detroit’s casino revenue for the three land-based venues have generated an aggregate monthly total of $109.44Million for April 2024.

Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the revenue came via slots and table games. In total, the figure was confirmed as $107.87m. This was an 11.8% decrease compared to March 2024.

However, it was a 1.6% decrease when comparing year-on-year. In terms of gaming taxes, the three Detroit casinos paid $8.74m to the state of Michigan in April.

There was a further $12.8m paid to the City of Detroit via wagering taxes and development agreement payments. Just $1.57m of the aggregate revenue came from retail and sports betting.

In total, the three Detroit casinos reported a total retail sports betting handle of $15.28m. The reports also confirmed that $59,362 was paid in gaming taxes.

A further $142,718 in wagering taxes was paid to the City of Detroit. April market shares for the MGM Grand stood at 46%. MotorCity was 30% with the Hollywood Casino at Greektown 24%.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Detroit NFL draft failed to help boost the city’s casinos revenue towards the end of April 2024. Despite welcoming approximately 775,000 fans.

Therefore, it’s fair to assume the vast majority of visitors chose to spend their time in Motor City outside and enjoying the festivities. As opposed to trying their luck in the land-based casinos.

Considering April was the first month this year that saw a month-over-month decrease, it may be a cause for concern from the casinos perspective.

However, Detroit casinos aren’t too far off from the total revenue generated through the first four months from years prior. In 2020, $299.2m was reported.

2021 saw a sizable increase compared to the year previous, generating a total of $391.6m. Two years ago, $432.3m was posted with $435.8m in 2023. In 2024, the total is $428.8m.

Detroit’s Casino Revenue
