A petition in Missouri to bring sports betting to the state has just crossed 300,000 signatures, with the campaign gathering extensive support by the day across the state.

Sports betting within Missouri is currently restricted, as the state remains one of just 12 US states to restrict wagering on sports as of early 2024.

Winning for Missouri Education has already secured over 325,000 signatures in support of the petition that hopes to authorise Missouri sports betting as soon as possible.

“The tremendous support we’ve seen throughout the state is a testament to Missourians’ readiness to bring sports betting revenue home and support our local schools, students, and teachers in the process,” said Winning for Missouri Education spokesperson Jack Cardetti.

“As the campaign approaches our goal of putting this on the November ballot, Missouri is a step closer to allowing Missouri adults to bet on sports while generating tens of millions in annual funding for our classrooms.”

According to votes conducted by both Emerson College and Saint Louis university, over 60% of the state population support the legalisation of Missouri Sports Betting and the vast support statewide could be enough to pass a bill as soon as this year.

It is difficult to put a time frame on any of these votes however in February earlier this year House Bill 2835 was introduced in Missouri, which involves the authorization of sports gambling in Missouri.

The bill would also legalize the use of ‘interactive digital games’, meaning Missouri would allow the use of slot machines and other electronic games.

Licensed sports betting operators would have to pay an initial application fee of $150,000 under the new bill with licenses valid for just one year before a four-year renewal period which is set to cost around $10,000.

House Bill 2835 has already been referred to the Special Committee on Innovation and Technology.

Missouri Sports Betting
